Dog Behavioural Challenges: How can Bert's Buddies Dog Training Help?

What are some common behaviours to look out for in your dog?

Dog behaviour is a complex subject and it can be difficult to know when it's best to seek help from a professional. The 5, most common, types of behaviour are listed below.

Separation anxiety:

This behaviour is often seen when a dog is left alone, causing them to become overly anxious, bark and howl, and even chew or destroy items in the home.

  • Through a consultation, I can identify the cause of the anxiety and come up with strategies to help you manage this.

Aggression:

Aggression can be seen in dogs of all ages and can be caused by a number of factors.

  • l can help you put in place practical solutions to work with the root cause of the behaviour.

Fear:

If your dog is displaying fearful behaviour, this can be caused by a number of things, such as genetics or past history.   Fear can stem from a dog's misunderstanding of their expectations or what they are being asked to do.

  • Identifying the causes of fear can, in most cases, begin to create a positive experience for dogs in their surrounding and with their  interactions around people and other dogs.

Inappropriate toileting:

Some dogs may urinate or defecate inside due to anxiety or behavioural issues.

  • When I help to identify the causes of the behaviour I will recommend and help implement strategies to help your dog with toileting in the right places.

Resource guarding:

This behaviour occurs when a dog encounters, what they perceive, as (to be) a high value resource such as a toy; a person; an item of food or even a particular space.

  • Resource guarding is a behavioural I (highly) specialise in identifying and rehabilitating this type of behaviour.

Ultimately, any behaviour that is causing distress or disruption in your home should be addressed by an experienced professional. A proper assessment of your dog's behaviour can ensure that appropriate strategies are put in place to help you manage, and improve, this situation.
